Surf Reasons
1. Only you, your parents, or a teacher should know your password to protect you.
2. Always get your parents permission to use the Internet.
3. Always check the URL address to make sure you are not going somewhere you don't want to go.
4. Chat lounges can contain language not appropriate for children. Always check with a parent or an adult before entering a chat room.
5. Being online should be fun and adventerous. If you are talking to someone who makes you feel uncomfortable, leave the chat room and tell an adult.
6. Sending a picture of yourself to others lets them know what you look like. Never send a picture without your parent's permission.
7. Never respond to mean, threatening, or harassing e-mail. It is illegal to send messages like that. Get a parent or another adult right away.
8. Not everything you read on the Internet is true. Be very careful about sending for "free things". Get permission from an adult to send for "free things" because alot of them have a catch to them.
9. NEVER give out your full name to anyone on the internet. You are telling alot of people who you are.
10.Keep the computer in a space where your parents or another adult might be at. That way if you need help they are close by.
11.Never meet someone alone. Have a parent with you or another responsible adult. Use common sense and meet that person in the daytime.
12.Anything sent over the internet can be seen by millions of viewers. Be careful of what you say and how you say it.
13.NEVER give out your phone number to anyone over the internet. Even if they are your friends. Remember, nothing is private!
14.Be responsible when you are online. What you do is up to YOU and only YOU!
15.Always get permission before signing up for something. It could cost you or your parents alot of money.
16.Never open files from someone you don't know. There are computer "hackers" out there who send messages through e-mail that can infect your computer.
17.Never use your real name when you are online. Make up a nickname for yourself. It's fun to have a nickname!
18.Don't talk to anyone online who is asking you personal questions. Stop talking to that person and get an adult.
19.Don't give out the name of the school you attend unless a teacher gives you permission to do so.
20.Remember the "golden rule". Treat others how you would want to be treated.
21.Not everyone is who they say they are online. People lie so don't fall into a trap in believing everything.
22.There are some things online that are "free". Get your parents permission to sign up for the free merchandise.
23.How old you are is your business. Don't tell anyone online your age. Remember, nothing is private.
